This morning spent more than a half hour filling in Live Journal gaps during our September 2011 mini-vacation to Los Angeles. The first floor, our laundry room, has subfloor plywood secured now! Also almost 2 walls in the basement have been framed today. One wall was framed as part of stablizing after the loss of the foundation wall. Maybe the concrete footing will be a feature with the drywall added above. No carpentry was done in the backroom project, after Wednesday completing the new higher floor joists. The structure, using the same 2x6's, was mounted on 6x6's that went on top of the sills, similar to how the 1908 house was constructed. Sometime today (last I heard, around 1:30 p.m.) the concrete will be poured for the basement floor to form the slab and also the footing for the structural post to hold up part of the first floor. The concrete will cure over the weekend ( Read more... )

A trio of carpenters originally from Ukraine have added the floor joists for part of the backroom floor yesterday. A large part of the work involved cutting out the 115 year old 2x8's that formed the beam sitting on the old foundation.
